If I Were a Rich Man...



What if money were no object? Who hasn't had this question put to them by a friend or acquaintance? What would be your answer? Would you decide to travel, buy a house or pay off your mortgage? Would you “party hearty,” or would you bank a sizable sum?

Folks in our Western culture often admire others who are financially successful. However, just because someone has made money doesn't mean that they’ve necessarily got it made.

Is God Sorry?



When I was a boy, my grandmother used to send our family copies of a Pennsylvania newspaper, Grit, which published only good news. Grit displayed news and features aimed at rural America, and climbed to a weekly circulation of 100,000 by 1900, and reached nearly half a million by its 50th anniversary in 1932. Grit is still printed today as a bimonthly magazine, and its memorably optimistic mission statement has remained with it through the years.

Nihilism: Refuge of Those Without Hope



Years ago, a television ad posed the question, “If you’re going nowhere today, where will you be tomorrow?” I was impressed by its message since, as a young teen, I was at that age where the mind starts to mature and focus more on the future. As we grow up, we inevitably look beyond the current day and develop a "game plan" for life.

Some 'splainin' to do...



Occasionally my wife and I have the opportunity to watch a youngster when her parents spend an evening playing together on a volleyball team. When at their home, we are often encouraged by Abigail to color with her in one of her crayon books. Some pages present a partial image with some detail and an outline presented as a set of dots. Abigail is young enough that we have had to instruct her on how to connect the dots in order to make the image clear.
