Wind and Waves Raging

In the past few weeks, thousands around the globe have been traumatized by powerful hurricanes in the Atlantic and typhoons in the Pacific that have caused tremendous devastation and suffering.

Deluge in Houston!

Hurricane Harvey slammed into the Gulf Coast over the weekend, destroying properties and drenching parts of Texas and Louisiana. One Houston county saw over 30 inches (nearly a meter) of rain in just 72 hours (Washington Post, August 28, 2017). Officials expect over 30,000 people in evacuation shelters, and President Trump designated parts of Texas and Louisiana national disaster areas.

Global Weather Extremes

Due to an unusually hot and dry summer, Portugal has requested help from Europe to combat forest fires on a scale not seen in recent memory. Thousands of firefighters are battling hundreds of blazes around the nation (Reuters, August 13, 2017).

The Miracle of Dunkirk

Learn more about the miracle at Dunkirk.

Into the Storm!

My father was always fascinated by storms. News of one approaching would draw him to our small front porch, where he would stand, watching it build along the horizon. As a child, I would join him at times, staring into the dark clouds in the distance—seeing them move, swirl, and gather as they darkened further still, and wondering what they held in store as they drew closer to our home.
