Can you connect the lost tribes of Israel, God’s promises to Abraham, American prosperity, the British monarchy, and the last days? Bible prophecy fits these puzzle pieces together in just five steps. Here’s how.
[The text below represents an edited transcript of this Tomorrow’s World whiteboard.]
During the last two centuries, the United States and Great Britain have both reached unprecedented levels of success and power in the world. But why?
Did the U.S. and Great Britain just have amazing luck as 13 little colonies and a small island nation came to dominate the world? Or was Bible prophecy being fulfilled?
The fascinating answer is found in the Bible, and it has to do with the link between these two nations and the lost 10 tribes of Israel.
So in this video, we’ll explain in five simple points why God brought the United States and Great Britain to the forefront as world-dominating superpowers. And we’ll show you how these two great nations are connected to the lost 10 tribes of Israel. This is one of the most interesting stories of history and prophecy you’ll ever hear. And it is a major key to understanding much of Bible prophecy.
So stick around—and don’t just believe us, but look up these verses and prove this from your own Bible.OK, let’s get started.
The promises God made to Abraham were enormous and extraordinary—the kind that would affect the entire world and lay the foundation for the rest of the Bible. There are many passages that describe these promises and explain how they were passed down from Abraham to Isaac (son), then to Jacob (grandson), to Joseph (great grandson), and to Ephraim and Manasseh (great-great-grandsons). It would take hours to go through them in detail, so here is a big-picture view of the key passages and the specific promises given.
We’d encourage you to pause the video and look them up yourself, but a basic summary of the promises given to Abraham and his descendants are:
God made these promises to Abraham and his descendants around 2000 to 1700 BC.
In the following centuries, Abraham’s family grew into the nation of Israel which consisted of the 12 tribes (or families) of Jacob, whose name had been changed to Israel.
After the Exodus and their settling in the promised land, the nation of Israel had many ups and downs as it went through the period of the Judges, and then as a united kingdom.
Because of their disobedience to God, the nation split around 930 BC. Ten of the tribes became the northern kingdom of Israel. Ephraim and Manasseh were part of this northern kingdom (1 Kings 11:31-35). The other two tribes became the southern kingdom of Judah.
Then in about 721 BC, the powerful Assyrian empire conquered the northern kingdom and deported them to areas to the north and east (2 Kings 17:6).
This was an abrupt ending to the northern nation known as Israel, which included, among the tribes, Ephraim and Manasseh.
Many think the tribes simply assimilated into the local populations and disappeared from the rest of history. But was that it? Was that the end of the story? What about the promises to Abraham that were passed down to Ephraim and Manasseh? Were they fulfilled?
When you look at a map of the world, and the extent of Israel at its peak during Solomon’s reign, the nation of Israel only occupied a tiny sliver of land on the eastern side of the Mediterranean Sea. It roughly compared to the size of the small state of New Jersey. This obviously couldn’t be the fulfillment of all the promises.
In Genesis 48, Israel told Joseph that his older son Manasseh was to become a great people, and that Ephraim was to become a multitude or company of nations. There is no record of Ephraim and Manasseh ever becoming a great nation and company of nations prior to Israel’s captivity. And they never became a blessing to all the nations of the world before they went into Assyrian captivity.
So if the incredible promises were not fulfilled before Israel was taken captive and deported in 721 BC, then when were they fulfilled? Well, the Bible explains that the ultimate fulfillment would be postponed until the end-times, which brings us to point number three.
Primarily two passages make this clear. First, in Genesis 49:1 we read an essential prophecy:
Jacob called his twelve sons and said, “Gather together, that I may tell you what shall befall you in the last days.”
Jacob went on to explain much greater blessings would fall on Joseph and his sons Ephraim and Manasseh. But notice this important key—the timing would occur in the last days.
Israel’s prophecy that followed was not for his day or for the time when his descendants would come out of Egypt and enter into the Promised Land. It was for the end-times. Clearly, the descendants of Israel were still to exist in the end-time as separate, identifiable tribes.
The second key passage is in Leviticus 26. It describes how Israel’s obedience would bring blessings, but their disobedience would bring punishment.
What would happen if, after repeated punishment, Israel persisted in rebellion against God and His laws?
In verse 18, God said:
“After all this, if you do not obey Me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins” (Leviticus 26:18)
The Hebrew word rendered seven times can refer either to length of time or to intensity of punishment. So a punishment of “seven times” could be a punishment for seven prophetic years.
Two examples in Scripture where a “time” refers to a year in duration are in Daniel 4:32 and Revelation 12:14.
The Bible shows that a prophetic year consists of 12 months of 30 days. Therefore, if we do the math, seven prophetic years would equal 2,520 days (7 x 12 x 30 = 2,520).
And using the Biblical prophetic “day for a year principle” (Numbers 14:34; Ezekiel 4:6), we come to see that the “seven times” indicates a length of punishment and a postponement of the promises for 2,520 years.
2,520 years from the time of Israel’s captivity in 721 BC comes to the year 1800 [there is no year 0], right at the beginning of the rapid ascents of Great Britain and the United States. This coincides perfectly with Jacob’s prophecy in Genesis 49, where he explained that his son Joseph, and therefore Joseph’s sons Ephraim and Manasseh, would receive great blessings in the last days.
Many scriptures indicate that the time period after 1800 could be considered “the last days” due to the rapid increase in knowledge, information, and travel, the capability to destroy all life with nuclear weapons, and the ability for the gospel to literally be preached to every nation through the internet (Daniel 12:4; Matthew 24:14, 22).
This postponement of the promises fits with other Scriptures and prophecies as well, which brings us to the next point.
Note these few passages about how God would scatter Israel among other nations as part of its punishment.
“Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are on the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from the face of the earth; yet I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob,” says the LORD. “For surely I will command, and will sift the house of Israel among the nations, as grain is sifted in a sieve; yet not the smallest grain shall fall to the ground.”
My God will cast them away, because they did not obey Him; and they shall be wanderers among the nations.
For the LORD will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water. He will uproot Israel from this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the [Euphrates] River, because they have made their wooden images, provoking the LORD to anger.
These scriptures explain why Israel became known as “the lost ten tribes of Israel” after Assyria took them captive and deported them away from their native land. The majority of the 10 tribes never returned to their land because they were scattered among other nations and peoples. They became lost to historians, but God always knew exactly where they were.
Jesus even told His disciples to “go… to the lost sheep of the house of Israel” (Matthew 10:6).
It is beyond the scope of this video, but there is substantial evidence showing how the 10 lost tribes migrated to northwestern Europe over the centuries while the promises were delayed.
Now let’s get to the final point that really brings the puzzle together.
The United States fits the promise to Manasseh of becoming a single great nation, while Great Britain fulfills the promise to Ephraim of becoming a “multitude of nations” (Genesis 35:11; 48:19).
Take a look at these fascinating facts.
Though the reigns of the United States and Great Britain have been far from perfect, like every nation and empire, God used these two nations to bring about many blessings to the world.
These are just a few of the ways the United States and Great Britain match the promises to Abraham and his descendants perfectly.
When the whole picture of history and Bible prophecy is considered, no two nations in history match the amazing promises passed to Abraham’s two great-great-grandsons Ephraim and Manasseh as Great Britain and the United States.
And although the Bible is a big book that can be difficult to understand, we’ve just explained one of the key puzzle pieces that helps complete the picture.
The link between these two nations and ancient Israel is one of the most important puzzle pieces because it connects history, prophecy, the future, and the end of the age.
These two great nations became great not because their people were smarter or better, but because Almighty God honored the promises He made long ago to Abraham and his descendants.
