The Impact of 'Political Correctness'

Did you know that there are those in the Canadian government that are seeking to label the Bible as "hate literature"? Not only is this up for consideration in the Canadian Parliament; there are those in the United States and in many other countries that are not far behind. This is an incredible statement—an amazing statement—because the United States and Canada were built on a foundation that claimed to be Christian, and that recognized the Bible as the bedrock of society. Yet, right now there is a proposed bill in the Canadian Parliament that, according to opponents, would criminalize public expression against homosexual behavior. A self-described homosexual member of the House of Commons, Svend Robinson, is expected to reintroduce Bill C415, which would add sexual orientation as a protected category in Canada's Genocide and Hate Crimes Legislation. This is so incredible that any of the forefathers in the United States or Canada—the men who shaped our nations—would surely be absolutely shocked. They would be amazed and flabbergasted that such a proposal would ever be up for discussion.

There was actually a situation in which an ad was taken out in a Saskatchewan newspaper, quoting scriptures from the Bible on the subject of homosexuality—while this could not be prosecuted as criminal behavior, there was a $5,000 fine both for the individual who took out the ad and for the newspaper. Absolutely incredible!

Let me tell you what God has to say about this. Isaiah 5 discusses the reasons for God's coming intervention. Notice back in Isaiah 3:9: "The look on their countenance witnesses against them [Speaking of God's people—Israel.], and they declare their sin as Sodom; they do not hide it. Woe to their soul! For they have brought evil upon themselves." They have brought problems upon themselves. God says they declare their sin as Sodom. Not only are they doing things that they should not—but they are proud of it. They are out in the open.

Isaiah 5:13 says: "Therefore my people have gone into captivity, because they have no knowledge; their honorable men are famished, and their multitude dried up with thirst." Verse 20 continues: "Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight! Woe to men mighty at drinking wine, woe to men valiant for mixing intoxicating drink" (vv. 20-22). These are individuals, as it mentions in verse 23, who justify the wicked for reward and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him. "Therefore, as the fire devours the stubble, and the flame consumes the chaff, so their root will be as rottenness, and their blossom will ascend like dust; because they have rejected the law of the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel" (v. 24).

That is what God says our nations have done—what our people have done. We have called good evil and evil good. We have turned things upside down. We have bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter. We have lawyers who will justify the wicked for reward. It does not matter what someone has done. It does not matter how heinous or abominable something is. If there is money involved, they will try to get him off the hook. The reality is that, as nations, we have cast away the law of the Eternal of Hosts. We have cast away God's law as nations, and we have despised the word of the Holy One of Israel. The consequences for our actions are going to come to pass!
