A World Held Captive

Human beings have landed on the moon, and have sent probes beyond our solar system. We continue to advance in science and technology in ways that would have seemed almost unimaginable just a generation ago. Yet we live in a world filled with war, disease, famine and economic chaos. With all we know, why does it seem that we cannot learn how to live in peace and prosperity? What is holding us back? The answer may surprise you!

Miley Is Not the Problem



 Miley Cyrus’ vulgar and obscenely sexualized performance at MTV’s Video Music Awards—in front of more than 10 million viewers, in a program marketed to pre-teens, teens and young adults—has been widely criticized as degrading both the performer and the audience that watched it. But, in reality, the real story is that so much of what was celebrated at the awards ceremony generated little commentary at all, let alone outrage.  

This Is NOT Our Father's World



A much-beloved Protestant hymn asserts, “This Is My Father’s World.” The song has a beautiful melody, and the sentiment is tempting. Yet, the reality of the matter—as so pointedly shown by the many sudden and destructive events caused by natural disasters—is that our world today is not our Father’s world.
