A coming "world political authority"?

Comment on this article

The world is on the verge of a new and deeper recession (BBCNews.com, October 31, 2011). Meanwhile, Germany is growing increasingly frustrated with the European debt debacle and the Vatican is calling for “a world political authority.”  How will you be affected?  How do these events align with end-time prophecy?

The Bible predicts that, at the time of the end, ten kings will temporarily give their authority in an uneasy alliance to the “King of the North” (Daniel 2:41-43; Revelation 17:12-13)!  The result will be a German-dominated European economic, military and religious superpower.  It will reign for a short time, and it will not be friendly to the United States, England or France.  Furthermore, it will oppose Christ at His triumphant return (Daniel 2:44; Revelation 17:14)!

A worsening global financial outlook, increasing European economic turmoil, growing German political frustration and economic prominence—as well as the Vatican’s recent proposal calling for a powerful “world political authority” that “would have international governance on arms control, migration, food security, and environmental protection” (Washington Post, October 24, 2011)—are significant steps toward fulfilling these prophecies!

Notice what the Church of God warned, more than 40 years ago: “Bible prophecy clearly shows that Britain will not be one of the ten nations comprising the final United States of Europe” (Tomorrow’s World, February 1970, p. 17).  Instead, “Bible prophecy shows that the coming United States of Europe—referred to in King James’ language as the “beast” of Revelation 13 and 17—will have strong religious (in fact, nominally “Christian”) connections.  Sitting astride a United Europe will be a great Church or Church system—prophesied two thousand years ago (see Rev. 17)” (ibid., p. 33).

After the European Union exceeded ten member states, some scoffed at these prophecies.  But, even now, there are increasing calls for changes to the European Union treaty.  Increasingly, the departure from the union of countries such as Sweden, Britain, Denmark and others, and a smaller European Union is being discussed (Financial Times, October 30, 2011).  But who will lead Europe?  China says Europe must solve its own economic woes (Reuters.com, October 31, 2011).  So, which European nation has the economic strength and will to lead Europe out of this economic mess?  Notice, it is Germany who has become Europe’s “paymaster.”  It is Germany who says that those European states who borrowed recklessly are now “being punished” and “must learn discipline” (BBCNews.uk, October 11, 2011)!

The Bible foretells of an ecumenically sanctioned German-led Europe at the end of the age!  Even proud France, now at risk of having its credit downgraded (The Guardian, October 24, 2011), is beginning to realize that it is Germany who is increasingly in control!  This is why French President Sarkozy was forced to cancel plans, “after a brief visit to the Paris maternity clinic where his wife was giving birth to their first baby” in order to fly to Germany for “an emergency meeting” to discuss economic disagreements with Angela Merkel (Financial Times, October 19, 2011).  Not surprisingly, the German position prevailed.  Indeed, the borrower is servant to the lender (Proverbs 22:7)!

England will not be part of the final ten kings!  And, France will not lead end-time Europe!  Prophecies such as Hosea 5:5-9, Hosea 7:11-12, Ezekiel 34:22-24 and 1 Thessalonians 5:3 reveal that England and France, along with the United States and other modern nations descended from ancient Israel, will “stumble together” and will briefly become the “prey” of the nations immediately before Christ’s return.  And the predominant end-time empire will be German-led and European.

God desires repentance from all people (Mark 1:15) and that the entire house of Israel may be saved (Romans 10:1).  Instead, the modern Israelitish nations continuously do not submit to the righteousness of God (Romans 10:3), but “turn to other gods.”  So, sadly, a time of correction is coming (Deuteronomy 31:18).  To learn about this topic in much greater depth, please read our informative booklet, The United States and Great Britain in Prophecy.
