The devil's end

The story is made most interesting by keeping the reader guessing as to which side will prevail. Many have applied this view to the world itself, believing that the universe is locked in an epic battle between good and evil. Is this a contest with no certain outcome? Or, can you be sure that good will triumph over evil and that the very embodiment of evil, Satan the devil, will meet his end?

First, it is important to recognize that Satan is a very real being. Many people have wrongly used human logic to try to argue away the very existence of a devil. They are deceived! The Apostle John describes Satan as "that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world" (Revelation 12:9). One of his greatest deceptions is the myth that he does not even exist!

In the September-October 2010 edition of Tomorrow's World magazine, Richard Ames takes a look at what the Bible actually teaches about Satan the Devil. In his article titled "Who Is the Devil?" he shares with us this insightful synopsis.

He is neither an imaginary figure, nor a comic-book character in a red suit with horns and a tail. He is not a creature to "have fun about" on Halloween. The devil is your enemy, and wants to see you destroyed.

But why have so many, even among the religious, refused to believe that such a creature could exist? For some, the argument boils down to a fear of the reality of Satan's existence or an uncertainly about God's ability to be victorious over Satan. They do not realize that the Bible tells us the end of the story.

Those who keep God's Holy Days, listed in Leviticus 23, are reminded each year of the seven crucial steps in God's master plan. This includes the removal of Satan! The Day of Atonement pictures a time in the not-too-distant future when Satan will be taken out of the equation. John saw this in a vision and recorded it for us in the book of Revelation:

Then I saw an angel coming down from heaven, having the key to the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand. He laid hold of the dragon, that serpent of old, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years; and he cast him into the bottomless pit and shut him up, and set a seal on him, so that he should deceive the nations no more till the thousand years were finished. But after these things he must be released for a little while (Revelation 20:1-3).

Satan will be bound for a thousand years, and then released for a short while before being put away for good! We do not need to remain on the edge of our seat, wondering who will be victorious. There is no contest. God cannot lie (Titus 1:2), and His word makes it clear that the devil's end has been decided; that Satan's days are numbered!
