It is not uncommon to find professing Christians expressing the notion that the God of the Old Testament was harsh and does not reflect the love and kindness that Jesus taught. They also feel that there is somehow a difference between what God sought from mankind in the Old Testament as compared to the New. Many believe Jesus came to change the expectation that we would keep His Father’s law, and was therefore a kinder, gentler God. But does this perspective match with scripture?

The rite of baptism is carried out by the vast majority of those who identify as Christians. However, there is a wide variety of differences in practice and understanding regarding this important rite. The Bible contains several instructions and examples as to how, and why, the act of baptism is central to Christian belief. The answers may surprise you.

Church buildings come in all shapes and sizes. Some are very small, humble structures, while others are massive, elaborate edifices which required years to build. Yet, even more varied than the size and architecture of their facades are the customs, ways of worship, and beliefs that they represent. Why? If all identify as Christian and supposedly have a common text, the Bible, as their foundational text. Which of these churches would the original apostles attend if they were alive today? Do these churches all represent the original doctrines of the Church? They cannot all be correct.
