Are Churches Dying?

Is Christianity dead? In this video, learn the Bible’s answers about two end-time groups—a false church and a true church—and the meaning of “I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”

[The text below represents an edited transcript of this Tomorrow’s World program.]

Why the Decline in Church Attendance?

In 1882, philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche famously declared “God is dead.” Today, more than 140 years later, some might argue “THE CHURCH IS DEAD.” Or… at LEAST churches are DYING. And who could blame them for thinking that? Look around. In the Western world, church attendance is plummeting. Society is changing. Biblical morality is being ridiculed. And a sense of shared values seems to be evaporating before our very eyes.

The news feeds reflect this trend—and NOT just in America. Here are some recent headlines:

  • “Losing My Religion: How the UK is leaving the Church and gaining conspiracy theories”
  • “How Canada’s religious makeup has shifted over the past 20 years”
  • “Is Christianity dying in Australia? Here’s how to redeem it from the bottom up”

For many of us, these headlines might resonate. In cities and towns all over the Western world, church attendance is down. More churches are closing each year in the United States than are opening—in some years by a margin of almost 1,500 (“Study: More churches closing than opening,” ReligionNews.com, May 26, 2021).

And some predict that 1/3 of Canada’s churches may close in the coming years. (“Secularization: A Third of Canada’s Churches Will Close,” WorldReligionNews.com, March 17, 2019).

So, what does the future hold for the modern Christianity of our Western nations? Will it die out altogether?

There are answers. All we have to do is open our Bible to find them. And along the way, we might even uncover some surprising things about this topic you’ve not heard before.

So, let’s dive right in and find the answers to this question: “Are Churches Dying?”

I’ll be right back.

A Social Drift Away from Religious Involvement

Welcome to Tomorrow’s World, where we help you make sense of your world through the pages of the Bible.

Look at traditional American churches today. As secularism makes massive inroads, it’s clear churches are in decline. In October of 2019, The Pew Research Center ran an article entitled, “In [the] U.S., Decline of Christianity Continues at Rapid Pace.” Here’s what the article noted:

“In 2018 and 2019, 65% of American adults describe themselves as Christians when asked about their religion, down 12 percentage points over the past decade. Meanwhile, the religiously unaffiliated share of the population, consisting of people who describe their religious identity as atheist, agnostic or ‘nothing in particular,’ now stands at 26% up from 17% in 2009” (“In U.S., Decline of Christianity Continues at Rapid Pace,” PewResearch.org/religion, October 17, 2019).

In real numbers that shift represents tens of MILLIONS of people. That’s a huge change in the American religious landscape, in just ten years.

What will the nation look like after a few more decades? Here’s one estimate, again by the Pew Research Center:

“The Center estimates that in 2020, about 64% of Americans, including children, were Christian. People who are religiously unaffiliated, sometimes called religious “nones,” accounted for 30%…. [T]he projections show Christians of all ages shrinking from 64% to between a little more than half (54%) and just above one-third (35%) of all Americans by 2070” (“Modeling the future of religion in America,” Pew Research Center, September 13, 2022).

Churches in America are on a downward trend. But again, it’s not just happening in the U.S. only. The trajectory is the same in other Western nations. Consider this report from Australia, from The Canberra Times, on June 28, 2022:

“The Christian churches in Australia currently find themselves in a perfect storm. The recently released data from the 2021 census makes the reality clear. The future of Christianity in Australia will be as a minority. Just 44 percent of Australians now identify as Christians, down from 52 percent at the 2016 census” (“Is Christianity dying in Australia? Here’s how to redeem it from the bottom up,” Canberra Times, June 28, 2022).

Again, an astonishing drop, in a short period of time, in Australia.

What about England and Wales? In a 2021 census taken there, for the first time ever those who identify as Christians were a minority, down from 59.3% around 2012, to 46.2% in 2022 (“Losing My Religion: How the UK is leaving the Church and gaining conspiracy theories,” Euronews.com/culture, December 4, 2022). This is in a nation where the reigning king has as one of his official titles, Defender of the Faith. Think about that. The political ramifications for this new cultural shift are staggering.

Canada has been on the cutting edge of woke culture in recent years. And not surprisingly, the number of church-goers there has taken a massive hit. In 2001, 77% of the population identified as Christian. But by 2021, that had dropped to only 53% (“How Canada’s religious makeup has shifted over the past 20 years,” The Star, October 26, 2022).

What’s behind this shift? Why is it happening? Many have tried to answer the question. And certainly, one factor that has quickened the pace of falling church attendance was the COVID-19 pandemic. Almost overnight, businesses, government buildings, restaurants, gyms, movie theaters and yes, even churches—were shut down. People were told to worship from home. And technology made it possible. Many churches streamed their service[s]. And for a short-term crisis, this certainly kept people at least somewhat connected.

But fast forward to the present. For many, the temporary emergency measure has become a long-term condition. For those on the fringes, it’s become easier to simply drift away. Others have discovered they can be a church member in the comfort and privacy of their own home, without ever having to attend a service. The advent of online worship has fundamentally changed how many people look at going to church.

The online experience has undoubtedly been a blessing for churchgoers who are infirmed or otherwise can’t physically attend in person. But for those who CHOOSE to be disconnected from an actual group, that’s a disturbing trend in itself. In how many ways are we as a society becoming more disengaged and more disconnected from each other as each week goes by?

We’ve discussed where we are as a culture, our present situation. But where is it heading? What does the future hold for the churches in the Western world?

And more importantly, what does Jesus Christ think about all this? After all, He’s the Head of the Church, isn’t He?

God’s True Church Will NEVER Die—But Where is It?

In Matthew 16:18 Jesus said,

“I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it.”

The word “Hades” just means the unseen place of the dead. A pit or a grave. So, this statement means that Christ’s Church, His Church, would never die out. The grave would not consume His Church. There would always be someone, somewhere who was a living, breathing, and faithful disciple of Christ, all the way up to His return. Notice further, in Matthew 28:18:

“All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations… teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age” (Matthew 28:18–20).

Will Christ’s Church die out? No way! What this passage tells us, again, is that Jesus Christ will be personally involved in directing His Church, right up until His return. Notice one more passage that shows this, in Matthew 24:14:

“And this gospel of the Kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.”

Christ’s church will not die. We don’t have to be concerned about that. But there IS something that we should be concerned about. You see, Bible prophecy predicts not just the presence of one church that calls itself Christian, but two, in the end-times.

Now, you might say, “that’s no big deal, there are hundreds and even thousands of Christian denominations.” And that’s true. In fact, according to the International Bulletin of Missionary Research, as of 2014, there were 45,000 denominations that identify as Christian around the world.

But when the Bible describes the church, it doesn’t list 45,000 groups. It lists two. It breaks down all the different churches that have multiplied through the centuries into two groups. And the future of those two groups is foretold in the Book of Revelation.

The Book of Revelation is full of symbols. Floods represent armies and horns represent kings or kingdoms. And the Book of Revelation uses women to represent churches. What we find is there are two distinct women identified in the book.

Let’s look at one of them. We find a description of her in Revelation 17:1:

“Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and talked with me, saying to me ‘Come, I will show you the judgment of the great harlot who sits on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth were made drunk with the wine of her fornication.’ So he carried me away in the spirit into the wilderness. And I saw a woman sitting on a scarlet beast which was full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns” (Revelation 17:1–3).

This is one of the women identified in Revelation. But it’s a harlot woman, committing fornication, making inhabitants of the earth drunk with spiritual error. And she is riding on a beast. In other words, she is a politically powerful church, directing the actions of a corrupt government or kingdom. Going on in verse 4:

“The woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations and the filthiness of her fornication. And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS and of the abominations of the earth. I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus…” (Revelation 17:4–6).

John describes this woman, or church, as being fabulously rich. She also has harlot daughters—other churches that essentially teach the same thing, but have spun off from her. He also notes she is also responsible for putting to death true and faithful followers of Christ. The Book of Revelation shows this church will exercise great power for a period of time, but then its demise will be sudden. Notice verse 15,

“Then he said to me, ‘The waters which you saw, where the harlot sits, are peoples, multitudes, nations, and tongues. And the ten horns which you saw on the beast, these will hate the harlot, make her desolate and naked, eat her flesh and burn her with fire. For God has put it into their hearts to fulfill His purpose, to be of one mind, and to give their kingdom to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled. And the woman whom you saw is that great city which reigns over the kings of the earth” (Revelation 17:15–18).

This powerful church—symbolically a woman—will in the end be devoured by the beast power she rode. And we are warned to not be a part of this system! Notice this in Revelation 18:4:

“And I heard another voice from heaven saying, ‘Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities” (Revelation 18:4–5).

So, should we be worried about declining church attendance today? Well, there is a much more urgent concern. That is, that we don’t fall prey to a false church that is not Christ’s church at all, no matter how good it looks on the outside.

Notice more detail about this woman, this church, in Revelation 13:11:

“Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon” (Revelation 13:11).

What do the two horns symbolize? Well, Jesus is identified as the Lamb. So, this leader will appear to be like Christ, that he’s a man of God—a Christian. But clearly, there’s something amiss, for he speaks like a dragon. Who is the dragon? Satan the devil. So this leader is speaking not the words of Christ, but the words of the devil. And he will deceive millions, and perhaps billions of people.

Notice verse 13:

“He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. And he deceives those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast…” (Revelation 13:13–14).

So, what do we see here? Bible prophecy shows a great religious revival in the future. But don’t be fooled. It will be a counterfeit. And it will deceive great masses of people into THINKING they are following Christ.

Identifying Signs of the True Church of God

The first is a harlot woman, representing a rich, politically active and corrupt church. What is the identity of the other woman? She is identified as the faithful and obedient church following Christ. Revelation 12:1 speaks of her:

“Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. Then being with child, she cried out in labor and in pain to give birth” (Revelation 12:1–2).

In other words, this is talking about the Old Testament congregation. The faithful men and women during that period, who were God’s people, from the time of Adam and Noah and Abraham and Moses. It grew into a nation, and from that nation came the Messiah. He was born as a baby, and grew, and eventually gave His life for the sins of the world. Going on in Revelation 12:5,

“She bore a male child who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron” (Revelation 12:5).

That’s speaking of Jesus Christ. His destiny is to rule all nations on earth, when He returns. Going on in verse 5,

“And her Child was caught up to God and His throne. Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days” (Revelation 12:5–6).

Now it speaks of the woman again. And it’s talking about what happened to Christ’s faithful followers within a few hundred years after the first century.

You see, early in church history, there arose a branch of the church that was not faithful to Christ’s teachings. And that branch grew so powerful it eventually outnumbered the true followers of Christ. In the booklet, Dr. Meredith explains this. He quotes from Professor Rufus M. Jones, in The Church’s Debt to Heretics. Mr. Jones states:

“If by any chance Christ Himself had been taken by His later followers as the model and pattern of the new way, and a serious attempt had been made to set up His life and teaching as the standard and norm for the Church, Christianity would have been something vastly different from what it became. Then ‘heresy’ would have been, as it is not now, deviation from His way, His teaching, His spirit, His kingdom.… What we may properly call ‘Galilean Christianity’ had a short life, though there have been notable attempts to revive it and make it live again, and here and there spiritual prophets have insisted that anything else than this simple Galilean religion is ‘heresy’; but the main line of historic development has taken a different course and has marked the emphasis very differently” (The Church’s Debt to Heretics, 1924, pp. 15–16, emphasis added).

What we find is Christ’s true followers had to flee into hiding during those intervening centuries, to escape persecution. That’s what’s represented in Revelation 12 by the 1,260 days—symbolic for 1,260 YEARS—in the wilderness. Fast forward to the time of the end, in Revelation 12:7:

“And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him” (Revelation 12:7–9).

Notice this. Satan has deceived the whole world. This is critical to understand. Not only will there be great, massive deception by a false church in the last days. But when you come to understand it, the bulk of nominal Christianity has been operating under a great deception for centuries. Most people who call themselves Christians simply follow traditions of men, not the Christianity of the Bible.

So, what about those who really DO follow Christ? The Bible shows God offers them protection, on earth, through the Great Tribulation. Notice in Revelation 12:13:

“Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted the woman who gave birth to the male Child. But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent” (Revelation 12:13–14).

Some people think this refers to the church being raptured. No, it’s simply taken into a wilderness. Heaven is not a wilderness. The children of Israel came out of Egypt symbolically on eagles’ wings —that’s mentioned in Exodus 19:4. But we know they just walked. It’s the same concept here. Going on, verse 15,

“So the serpent spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ” (Revelation 12:15–17).

Notice this—the indication is that those who are faithful and protected will also have been people who had the testimony of Christ and were keeping the commandments of God. That’s not the Jews, that’s God’s genuine church.

For you and me, if we really are followers of Christ; if we obey His commandments—all ten of them—and are covered with the blood of His sacrifice, and are led by His Holy Spirit, He says He will watch out for us in the coming dark days.

So, is the church going to die out? Well, Christ’s church will never die. By the same token, there are sobering warnings about not being taken in by a persuasive but false version of Christianity in the future, and frankly, right now as well.

The Faithful Will Inherit the Kingdom of God

Notice in Revelation 19:7:

“Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his wife has made herself ready. And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, ‘Write: “Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!”’” (Revelation 19:7–9).

The faithful woman, the church—those who have given their loyalty and their allegiance to Christ—will actually be granted immortality at His coming. What a fantastic destiny for those who have eyes to see and ears to hear. Let’s ALL strive to make sure WE are part of that faithful and forgiven Church that will marry Christ at His return.

Stress, Success, and Happiness!

What does the Bible say about stress? In this video, discover how to cope with stress as Richard Ames examines instruction and principles from Scripture, giving you seven ways to de-stress from every challenge in life.

[The text below represents an edited transcript of this Tomorrow’s World program.]

From Stress to Success

Millions, if not billions, of people around the world are experiencing major stress in their lives adversely affecting their health. Are you one of those whose stress negatively affects your success and happiness? How happy are Americans? The World Happiness Report summarized “The Sad State of Happiness in the United States and the Role of Digital Media”: “The years since 2010 have not been good ones for happiness and well-being among Americans…. Happiness and life satisfaction among United States adolescents, which increased between 1991 and 2011, suddenly declined after 2012…. Thus, by 2016–17, both adults and adolescents were reporting significantly less happiness than they’d had in the 2000s” (WorldHappiness.report, March 20, 2019).

My friends, how can you overcome stress and live a life of success and happiness? Your Bible gives proven keys to cope with the challenges of life, and keys to produce lasting happiness and success.

We all face major stresses in our lives, but you CAN find the way to true success and contentment. You can meet the challenges of stress, and even produce success and happiness, IF you follow the ancient and proven keys revealed in your Bible.

Stay tuned!

Set the Right Goals and Seek the Promises of God

Warm greetings to all our friends around the world!

The world is facing dangers, nationally and personally. The COVID-19 pandemic and the war in the Ukraine cause worry and anxiety. Many fear a World War III, or even a more severe disease pandemic. As we accelerate our technology and pace of life in our 21st century, millions experience increasing stress, depression, and physical illness.

Regular viewers of Tomorrow’s World have seen these biblical trends, prophesied long ago, coming to pass here in the 21st century. Our news headlines seem to present a never-ending series of conflicts, wars, and riots. The global pandemic and financial crisis have severely damaged many nations and peoples. Natural disasters are setting new records of devastation, death, and destruction.

Can we survive under these stresses? Can we even succeed in spite of stress? Can we experience happiness in our danger-filled world? We’ll answer those questions on today’s program.

How successful are we coping with stress? The American Psychological Association stated: “Around three-quarters of adults (76%) say they have experienced health impacts due to stress in the prior month…” (“Stress in America 2022,” APA.org, October, 2022). We also saw that The World Happiness Report stated that “The years since 2010 have not been good ones for happiness and well-being among Americans….” The report also stated that adolescents have been seriously affected: “Adolescents spent less time attending religious services (Twenge et al., 2015), less time reading books and magazines (Twenge et al., 2019b), and (perhaps most crucially) less time sleeping (Twenge et al., 2017). These declines are not due to time spent on homework, which has declined or stayed the same, or time spent on extracurricular activities, which has stayed about the same (Twenge & Park, 2019). The only activity adolescents have spent significantly more time on during the last decade is digital media…the amount of time adolescents spend online increased at the same time that sleep and in-person social interaction declined, in tandem with a decline in general happiness.”

On today’s program, we’ll share with you seven strategies for success and happiness in times of stress. And be sure to write down the contact information to order your free audio CD, “Vital Keys to Happiness.”

STRATEGY NUMBER ONE for success and happiness in times of stress is: SEEK THE HIGHEST GOALS IN LIFE. Millions of people seek the wrong goals in life. Many set wealth and possessions as the sign of success. The more money, designer clothes, luxury cars, and glittering possessions, the more successful in life they think they are. But your Bible emphasizes greater values in life. Proverbs 8:10, for example: “Receive my instruction, and not silver, and knowledge rather than choice gold; for wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.”

When you seek the true values in life, you can put into perspective the carnal passions that produce stress. One of the most important passages in your Bible discusses the common need for food and clothing. In Matthew the sixth chapter, the Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth, commented on those of little faith. People were stressed over their physical needs. What did Jesus tell them? Matthew 6:31; “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things” (Matthew 6:31–32).

Here we find an awesome truth that many reject. In rejecting that truth, they reject the very solution to their problem. God is the giver of every good and perfect gift, as it tells us in James 1:17. And He has promised to fulfill all our need in Philippians 4:19. My friends, you need to listen to what Jesus told those who lacked faith. Read that in your own Bible. Matthew 6:33: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

When you set the right priorities in life, you can overcome many worries and anxieties. STRATEGY NUMBER ONE: Seek the Highest Goals in Life. STRATEGY NUMBER TWO for success and happiness in times of stress is: CLAIM GOD’S PROMISES.

Your Bible is a treasure house of God’s sure and wonderful promises for you. If you have your Bible, turn to 2 Peter 1:2. The Apostle Peter gives us strong encouragement! He writes to us: “Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord, as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, by which have been given to us [Listen to this] EXCEEDINGLY GREAT AND PRECIOUS PROMISES, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust” (2 Peter 1:2–4).

I’ve listed some of these wonderful promises in previous programs. And I encourage you to make your own personal list of God’s promises. God has promised to answer our prayers (Matthew 7–8); He has promised to fulfill all our needs (Philippians 4:19); He has promised to guide our lives (Proverbs 3:5–6); He has promised us long life, if we honor our father and mother (Ephesians 6:2–3); He has promised to give us the desires of our heart, IF we delight in Him (Psalm 37:4–5); He has promised us peace of mind (Philippians 4:6–7); He has promised us the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:38; Luke 11:13); He has promised us the gift of His love (Romans 5:5); and He has promised us eternal life (1 John 2:25).

And there are many, many more promises in the Bible for you and your family, and for all human beings on earth, IF you will come to God in prayer, and in faith, through our Savior, Jesus Christ.

Yes, Apply STRATEGY NUMBER TWO: CLAIM GOD’S PROMISES.

Stay Positive and Build a Prayerful Relationship With Your Creator

STRATEGY NUMBER THREE for success and happiness in times of stress is: PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT WORRIES YOU.

Turn in your Bible to Job 3:25. Are you what some call in the vernacular, a “worry-wart”? Do you let your fears and worries produce emotional and physical stress in your life? The patriarch Job said, “For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, and what I dreaded has happened to me” (Job 3:25).

Job expected his fears to materialize. He did not pray about his fears. My friends, you need to acknowledge your fears and worries and ask God for His help! What was the Apostle Paul’s solution for anxiety? How do you cope with worry and fearful concern? Let’s read this amazing biblical strategy in Philippians 4:6: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God.” In other words, share your worries, your fears, and your concerns with God in prayer!

Do you CONFRONT your worries, concerns, and fears? Pray about EVERYTHING that worries you. Share your intimate thoughts with God. He knows them anyway! Now, notice HOW you pray about everything. Remember Philippians 4:6: “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, WITH THANKSGIVING, let your requests be made known to God.” The Apostle Paul says to pray with thanksgiving! Thank God for all your blessings. Thank God for the very privilege of asking for His intervention, and for victory over your anxieties. STRATEGY NUMBER THREE for success and happiness in times of stress is: PRAY ABOUT EVERYTHING THAT WORRIES YOU. And pray with an attitude of thanksgiving. Thank God that He is WILLING to help you overcome your anxieties and fears, and that He’s willing to give you peace of mind.

STRATEGY NUMBER FOUR for success and happiness in times of stress is: MAINTAIN A POSITIVE MIND. The Apostle Paul experienced stress, trials, and tribulations. He wrote in 2 Corinthians 11: “From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep” (2 Corinthians 11:24–25). How did he cope with those stresses? He focused on maintaining a positive attitude. Even when Paul was in prison, he wrote encouragement to others. Turn in your Bible to Philippians 4:8. Paul exhorts us to think on these subjects: “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you” (Philippians 4:8–9).

Think about those things that are TRUE! What is true? Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17:17, “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.” The Bible, God’s word, is TRUTH. Think about those scriptures that are important to you. Read your Bible. Highlight or underline those verses that mean something special or significant to you! My friends, we must read the Bible. I encourage you to read your Bible every day! God’s word will inspire you. It will help clean up your thoughts and mind. As Jesus said in John 15:3, “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you” (King James Version).

STRATEGY NUMBER FOUR for surviving stress is: MAINTAIN A POSITIVE ATTITUDE.

Earnestly Repent and Seek God’s Will in Your Life

STRATEGY NUMBER FIVE for success and happiness in times of stress is: DETERMINE TO DO GOD’S WILL. In fact, the model prayer Jesus gave, instructs us to pray, “Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10).

One of the greatest keys for success and happiness is to do God’s will. One of the Bible themes from Genesis to Revelation, is that obedience to God’s way of life and His commandments brings blessings. Disobedience brings curses. My friends, pray that you can fulfill God’s law of love. Pray that God’s will be done in your life. Read your Bible daily to know God’s will. Read the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5, 6, and 7. Jesus said in Matthew 5:7, “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” Several Bible versions translate the word blessed as “happy.” Yes, “Happy are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.”

Many make the mistake of setting happiness as an end or a goal in itself. They become frustrated because they are not growing, learning, giving, or sharing. As Dennis Prager, in his Reader’s Digest article “A Simple Truth About Happiness,” wrote, one “secret” to happiness “is realizing that happiness is a byproduct of something else. The most obvious sources are those pursuits that give our lives purpose—anything from studying insects to playing baseball. The more passions we have, the more happiness we’re likely to experience” (June 1998, p. 99). My friends, be careful not to make “happiness” an OBSESSIVE goal. Such people remind me of the comic strip “Luann.” The student Luann is confiding to her counselor Miss Phelps, “Last week I decided to give up TRYING to be happy.” In the last frame of the comic strip, Luann concludes, “And now I’m MUCH happier” (News America Syndicate, March 19, 1986).

God’s will is that you give to others and share your life. As Jesus stated in Acts 20:35, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” Or as the Moffatt translation has it, “To give is happier than to get.”

Fulfilling GOD’S WILL includes MANY biblical principles of loving others. For example, Jesus taught us to forgive others. Again, you can read that in the model prayer in Matthew 6:12. Have you forgiven anyone recently? Forgiveness can even help one to overcome depression, according to Paul Meier, M.D. Dr. Meier writes in his book Don’t Let Jerks Get the Best of You, “A patient can be depressed for many years, then FORGIVE the one who caused his repressed anger and totally recover from the depression, because his serotonin has been restored naturally and the brain is able to work correctly” (1993, p. 170. Emphasis added).

Forgiving others can produce peace of mind. And doing GOD’S WILL can turn your depressed life around and bring you joy and happiness. STRATEGY NUMBER FIVE for success and happiness in times of stress is: DETERMINE TO DO GOD’S WILL. STRATEGY NUMBER SIX: REPENT AND SURRENDER YOUR LIFE TO GOD.

The Pharisees and the scribes complained that Jesus was spending time with tax collectors and sinners. So, Jesus gave the parable of the lost sheep. The owner of one hundred sheep leaves the 99 and goes after the lost one. He rejoices when he finds the lost sheep. Jesus said in LUKE 15:7, “I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.”

Then Jesus gave the parable of the lost coin and emphasized the same principle in verse 10: “Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents” (Luke 15:10). My friends, true happiness begins by repenting of your sins. After repentance and baptism, God gives the awesome gift of the Holy Spirit, as you read in Acts 2:38. STRATEGY NUMBER SIX for success and happiness in times of stress is: REPENT AND SURRENDER YOUR LIFE TO GOD.

An Attitude of Gratitude—Always!

CAN WE conquer our fears, worries, and anxieties? Yes, we can, with God’s help. We must maintain a positive and tranquil mind. And our final strategy will help us do that. STRATEGY NUMBER SEVEN for success and happiness in times of stress is: THANK GOD CONTINUALLY.

If you have your Bible, turn to 1 Thessalonians 5:16. Be sure to mark these verses in your Bible. 1 Thessalonians 5:16. “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16–18).

A thankful person will be a happy person. Again, Dennis Prager, in his Reader’s Digest article “A Simple Truth About Happiness,” wrote: “The first secret is gratitude. All happy people are grateful. Ungrateful people cannot be happy” (Prager, p. 99).

Have you observed that characteristic in others, or in yourself? Rick Foster and Greg Hicks, authors of How We Choose To Be Happy, put it simply; “Happy people actively appreciate their lives and express gratitude and thanks to the people around them” (1999).

And remember the Scripture we read earlier in the program; Philippians 4:6; “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, WITH THANKSGIVING, let your requests be made known to God.”

THE SEVENTH and FINAL STRATEGY for success and happiness in times of stress is: THANK GOD CONTINUALLY.

On today’s program we’ve discussed seven vital keys to success and happiness in times of stress. My friends, when you apply these biblical principles, they’ll help you have a joy-filled and happy life. The Messiah, Jesus Christ came to this earth as an act of love. He gave His life for the world, that we might be forgiven. YOU can be forgiven. And you can begin a new life in Christ. As Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” And remember what the Apostle Paul wrote in Philippians 4:4: “Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!”

May God bless you with peace of mind and the success and happiness that come from living God’s way of life.

Armor Up Against the Devil!

To fight the good fight and overcome by Jesus Christ’s power, you need to put on the Armor of God. In this video, learn every piece of that armor listed in Ephesians 6:10-17 for spiritual warfare—and how to use it.

[The text below represents an edited transcript of this Tomorrow’s World program.]

Are You Spiritually Protected?

All over the world, there is an invisible war—not a war for money, power, or land, but for minds, hearts, and souls. And the enemy is Satan the Devil.

Many have no idea there is a struggle at all, and the Devil has them completely in his clutches. Frankly, even many of you, watching right now, are in the devil’s grip and don’t even realize it.

But God is waking some up. Some do understand, and as God opens their eyes to the reality of that spiritual war, they long to fight back. To take back their mind. To take back their families. To take back their lives.

The good news is that Jesus Christ is willing to fully equip us for our fight against the devil and to support us every step of the way. But we must be willing to use the tools He provides us for our struggle.

Are you willing to fight back in this spiritual war for your mind? If so, then join us for this episode of Tomorrow’s World, where we will teach you how to Armor Up Against the Devil.

The Devil’s Greatest Deception

Now, here at the beginning, we should take some time to disabuse some of our viewers of a very deceptive myth. Polls vary widely in terms of what people believe, but research by the Barna Group has suggested that even among self-identified Christians, most believe the devil “is not a living being but is [merely] a symbol of evil” (“Most American Christians Do Not Believe that Satan or the Holy Spirit Exist,” Barna.com, April 13, 2009).

My friends, those individuals are deceived and have fallen for one of the devil’s most popular lies: that he does not exist!

Make no mistake: Satan is very real! Jesus Christ Himself calls the Devil a murderer and the father of lies in John 8:44, and when Peter argued with Him about the Savior’s coming death, Jesus addressed Satan personally and directly, as we read in Matthew 16:23:

“But He turned and said to Peter, ‘Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.’”

The Devil is real and he is powerful. And he will do everything in his power to influence you and your family—to keep you from truly knowing God and from seeking God’s purpose for your life!

Hopefully, you want to fight back! But before we do so, we need to understand what we’re up against. The Apostle Paul describes our plight in Ephesians 6:12:

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

Jesus Christ Himself declares in the inspired words of Scripture three times that Satan the Devil is “the ruler of this world.” His description is recorded in John 12:31, John 14:30, and John 16:11. The Apostle Paul calls the Devil “the god of this age.”

And as the ruler of this world, his influence on every facet of society is vast.

We certainly see it in our entertainment industry, which embraces and promotes themes, concepts, and images that are the very opposite of the laws, commands, and way of life taught by God in the Bible. Yet entertainment is hardly the limit of the Devil’s influence. We see that influence in our educational institutions, our halls of government, and—frankly—even many of our churches.

Increasingly perversity and sin is celebrated while righteousness and godly virtue is vilified! In fact, things have gotten so bad that even many of those pushing back against the latest perverse fads don’t even realize how much perversion they have already accepted as “normal”!

Ephesians 2:2 describes Satan as “the prince of the power of the air,” and, indeed, his influence is pervasive—woven into the very fabric of society.

And seeing the obvious wrongs, many of us are content to pat ourselves on our backs, thinking we’ve got it right! All of “those folks” are deceived and confused, but not us, right? You might think, “No, I’m not among the spiritually confused and deceived! I’m a good, clean, church-going Christian! I see through the lies and perversions of this day and age! The devil certainly doesn’t have a hold on me!”

Yet, most of you watching this very program right now have your vision of reality partially obscured by his deceptions, even as you believe you don’t. Don’t get mad, but I’m not here to make you happy. I’m here to help you repent. And the warning of the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 10:12 applies to all of us:

“Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall [!].”

Jesus Christ inspired the Apostle John in Revelation 12:9 to describe the devil as one “who deceives the whole world.” And, my friends, those who are deceived do not know they are deceived!

Our very own confidence that we are not deceived—thatwe have the enemy figured out, that we understand who the real bad guys are and what the real truth is—can be the very tool the devil uses to keep us in a state of deception!

My friends, God has not abandoned us to face the Devil unequipped! With the help of Jesus Christ, we can defeat the Devil in the war for our mind, if we will take full advantage of the tools God provides.

Knowing the Truth, Living the Truth, and Supporting the Truth!

In Ephesians 6, beginning in verse 10, the Apostle Paul tells all of us,

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil” (Ephesians 6:10–11).

God has not left us defenseless against Satan! Quite the contrary—if we are willing to follow His lead and act on His instructions, Almighty God gives us everything we need for victory! Paul continues in verse 13:

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

If you are willing to stand, face the temptations of Satan the Devil, and strive with all your might to overcome under the leadership and guidance of Jesus Christ, then this armor—the Armor of God—is exactly what you need in that fight. And how well you understand every piece of that armor decides whether you become the victor in battle, or just another casualty.

Paul describes that armor in detail in verses 14 through 17 of Ephesians 6. Let’s begin with Paul’s admonition concerning the first piece in verse 14:

“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth….”

This is the middle part of an ancient soldier’s armor, corresponding to a belt or girdle, sometimes called the corselet, protecting the trunk. This portion is what kept the other parts in their place, attaching to the breastplate, for instance, and providing a place for the sword to be hung.

In “armoring up” against the devil, Paul first points us to truth.

Defeating Satan requires a passionate devotion to the truth of God, and to truth over falsehood, in general. Jeremiah 17:9 warns us that our hearts are deceitful above all things and desperately wicked. We often lie to ourselves, rationalizing the things we want over those things that, deep down, we know are true.

How much does truth matter to you? When you hear uncomfortable truths explained to you from your Bible, are you willing to change your life in response to that truth, or do you make excuses, hoping it will fade from memory?

Anyone wishing to defeat the devil must care about the truth!

Now after describing the belt of truth, Paul then tells us to

“… put on the breastplate of righteousness…” (v. 14).

The breastplate protected the chest and the heart of the soldier. And God says our breastplate is to be righteousness! If you want to protect your heart and the source of your life from Satan the devil, you will seek righteousness!

Jesus commands this of all who long to be true Christians, in Matthew 6:33:

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”

And God doesn’t leave us in confusion about the righteousness of God. He inspired King David to write of God in Psalm 119:172 that “all Your commandments are righteousness.”

Are you seeking to live in concert with the Ten Commandments of God? Jesus said that hate and lust break the sixth and seventh commandments. Failing to observe the seventh day Sabbath breaks the fourth. Little white lies are still lies and violate the ninth. In whatever way you willingly break the commandments of God instead of seeking to allow Christ to overcome in that part of your life, you are sinning, and your heart becomes more vulnerable to the devil! You are missing a major part of your armor!

The next piece of the Armor of God Paul that describes involves our feet, of all things:

“… and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace…” (Ephesians 6:15).

Even today, we sometimes refer to troops sent fight as “boots on the ground.” To be a nimble and agile fighting force, soldiers had to be prepared to move and march at a moment’s notice—always at the ready. This part of the Armor of God asks how devoted we are to supporting the Gospel of the Kingdom of God, which Jesus Christ is taking to all nations in many ways—including through the program you are now watching.

As longtime viewers of Tomorrow’s World know, we never ask for donations on our program, and all the literature we offer is always absolutely free, with no strings attached. When you contact us for your copy of “The Occult and the Spirit World,” it’ll be no different. Jesus said to His true ministers, “Freely you have received, freely give” (Matthew 10:8). Not all are faithful to that command, but we refuse to do it any other way.

That effort is made possible by many of you who have become donors and co-workers with us, and by the love and financial support of the members of the Living Church of God, who meet every Sabbath in congregations all over the world.

And Jesus Christ notices those who support His Work. He notices when you share your copy of Tomorrow’s World magazine with someone else, or tell them about our program or ministry. Christ is passionately using His people to take this message all over the world, and when you care about that, as well, you are beginning to fulfill the charge of the Apostle Paul in Philippians 2:5, “Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus….”

Faith, Hope, and the Word of God—The Holy Bible

Paul continues in Ephesians 6:16:

“… above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”

Now according to Paul, our living faith—our deep and abiding trust that God means what He says, trust strong enough for us to obey Him—acts as a shield against the “fiery darts of the wicked one.”

And the wicked one can and does attack us. Many of us—many of you watching right now, face health trials, financial crises, family and relationship troubles, and personal tragedies. Life in this world is hard, and continuing to obey our Creator and our Savior can seem difficult. Such trials can seem to cloud our vision of Their love, care, and concern for us.

We must cling to our faith in God in those times! To defeat the devil, we must cultivate that living faith that knows God is there, and which looks to Him for a coming eternity that transcends all the trouble the devil can create in this world. To defeat the devil, we must seek God with a living faith, like that described in James chapter 2, which will manifest itself in obedience to God’s word—not a dead faith, which isn’t strong enough to move from our heart to our hands… from our mind to our actions and choices.

Next, Paul moves to another, vital part of God’s armor, telling us in Ephesians 6:17,

“And take the helmet of salvation….”

Elsewhere (1 Thessalonians 5:8), Paul calls this piece of God’s armor the “hope of salvation.”

The implication is that our hope in God’s salvation protects our minds in the same way a helmet protects a soldier’s head. And in this sin- and temptation-drenched world, increasingly twisted by Satan’s demonic worldview, our minds need all the help they can get!

We live in a world that, to many, seems increasingly hopeless. Society seems to be unraveling as our social bonds are ripped apart by infighting and conflict in which disagreements turn into hatreds. Many of our political leaders seem, at best, powerless to make the kinds of changes that will make a real difference, or, at worst, seem not to care—worried about little more than the next election and proverbially fiddling as Nero is said to do as Rome burns around them.

In such an environment of moral and societal chaos, individuals become desperate. Some raise up political leaders or social influencers to almost cult-leader-like status, believing they will solve all this confusion, and sneakily deceptive worldviews creep into our minds. Some deviate from the truth in slight and subtle ways, while others are utterly perverse in their falsehood.

But a focus on the real hope of salvation, offered by Almighty God, and the real eternity that salvation represents can help protect our minds from hopelessness and tempting influences—reminding us of eternal truths and those things that truly matter in the world… a world that will one day pass away into the dustbin of history.

Regrettably, even our so-called “Christian” churches teach a false, shallow idea of salvation that falls so infinitely short of what God actually intends. If you are interested in understanding that salvation—a message that has likely never been preached from behind the pulpit of your Sunday worship service—then requesting today’s free DVD is a great way to start your journey.

In the meantime, we finally arrive at the last part of the armor of God—and the only offensive weapon in Paul’s list! He continues in Ephesians 6:17,

“… and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God….”

How many people who call themselves “Christian,” let alone those of other faiths, are woefully ignorant of the word of God, today?

While the United States is claimed by some to be a “Christian nation,” a look at the reality behind the slogans would make you wonder. In its 2022 annual “State of the Bible” survey, the American Bible Society reported that the proportion of “Bible Users” in the U.S.—that is, Americans who use the Bible at least 3–4 times a year outside of Church—has plummeted to only 39% (p. x). And, frankly, 3–4 times a year is a miniscule amount of contact with the Living word of God!

Jesus said in Matthew 4:4, “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”—which, itself, is a quote from the Old Testament. Can you imagine trying to live on three to four meals a year?

How can anyone expect to fight against the Devil when they will not pick up their sword?

Don’t be caught in a swordfight emptyhanded! The sword of the Spirit, the word of God, is your only weapon in your fight to defeat the devil! And it is a weapon of incomparable power!

My friends, putting on the Armor of God—not missing a single piece—is crucial to achieving victory in your personal fight against Satan the Devil in the battle for your heart, mind, and soul.

Have Courage in Christ

We’ve discussed the Armor of God, described by the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 6—the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, the footwear of preparedness for the gospel, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the spirit, which is the word of God.

But being equipped with the Armor of God will not gain us the victory we need unless we also have courage.

The wars of this world have all seen their share of soldiers understandably terrified of the danger that awaits them on the field of battle. And the Devil is counting on fear to stop you, too.

But a soldier, even armed and protected with the Armor of God can achieve nothing unless he is willing to charge into the fray. And that takes courage.

Satan makes a life of spiritual complacency a comfortable one in this life. Going along to get along, so to speak, is easy. Repenting of sin and making real changes in your life, especially when others around you don’t understand those changes—and might even feel hurt or offended at those changes.

In seeking to follow God in reality—not just with lip service, but with a changed life—can bring discomfort, stress, and even hatred from some quarters. And, of course, Satan will do all He can to throw obstacle after obstacle in your way.

But we can take heart. The encouragement Jesus gave His disciples 2,000 years ago applies just as powerfully to us today: “These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). And writing to the followers of Jesus Christ, the Apostle John reminds us of this fact, telling us “He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world” (1 John 4:4).

So, take up the Armor of God with courage of heart! Because those who are willing to humble themselves and charge into battle soon find that they are not fighting alone… Rather they are standing side by side with the greatest spiritual warrior in history—the Son of God, Jesus Christ.

I hope you will choose to fight.

What Is the Gospel Jesus Preached?

What if you’ve only heard a clever substitute for the real gospel of Jesus Christ? The Apostle Paul warns of “another Jesus” and false gospel in 2 Corinthians 11. Let’s evaluate key verses about the gospel Jesus taught.

[The text below represents an edited transcript of this Tomorrow’s World program.]

Just What IS the True Gospel?

Why is the true gospel of Jesus Christ neglected in professing Christianity? Why do we hear instead a different gospel from that taught by Jesus, His apostles, and first century Christianity? Why is the message Jesus proclaimed for three-and-one-half years ignored and forgotten?

The answer to these questions is simple. A substitute gospel entered the professing Christian world shortly after the early church began, and the true message of Jesus Christ has been supplanted ever since. But how can that be? Surely the messages heard throughout the land on Sunday mornings must be the same as Jesus proclaimed. Sadly, it’s not true!

Many of you viewing this telecast read your Bible. You know what that message is that Jesus proclaimed… or do you? Is it possible even you have been deceived? I give you this challenge today: Look into what the Bible says and compare it with the message you think Jesus preached during His ministry, because I can almost guarantee that the true gospel of Jesus Christ has not been preached in the denomination you grew up in.

Does that sound too brash, too arrogant to say? Is it too politically incorrect to tell you the truth? As we often repeat on this program, don’t believe us just because we say it. And don’t believe your minister or priest just because he says it. Prove it for yourself, right out of the pages of your Bible. So if you want to hear what the true gospel is, stay with me. I’ll be back in five seconds.

If Anyone Teaches a Different Gospel…?

A warm welcome to all of you from all of us here at Tomorrow’s World. The true gospel that Jesus taught is not being preached in mainstream professing Christian churches! Now I know that is a bold statement and I don’t expect you to believe it without biblical proof. If the gospel you’ve been hearing is not the same as that proclaimed by Jesus, and if I can prove [it] to yourself from the pages of the Bible, what will you do about it? Think about that. A Christian is supposed to be one who follows Christ, so who will you follow? Christ? Or a popular denomination, a charismatic teacher, family tradition? Will you continue attending the “Church of your choice,” if it’s not proclaiming the gospel brought by Jesus, or will you take another path? This is a serious question that may call for courageous action.

How important is it to understand, and believe, not just any gospel, but the true gospel? Notice what Jesus said at the very beginning of His ministry, as recorded in Mark 1:14–15:

Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:14–15).

Yes, that’s a command straight from Jesus: “Repent, and believe in the gospel.” But how can you believe in something if you’ve never been taught what it is? Oh, but YOU are not deceived. YOU know what that message was! Don’t be too sure, because you’re not hearing it in mainstream Christianity.

So, what is that message? Do you care to know? Or are you comfortable with a counterfeit, just as the first century Corinthians were? Notice how the Apostle Paul soundly corrected them for their careless attitude in 2 Corinthians 11:3–4.

But I fear, lest somehow, as the serpent deceived Eve by his craftiness, so your minds may be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it! (2 Corinthians 11:3–4).

Wow! A different Jesus, a different spirit, and a different gospel! If the Corinthians could be deceived, to whom the great apostle to the Gentiles was sent, how about you? Is it possible that you, too, could be fooled? Could you be worshiping a different Jesus and believing a different message from the one He proclaimed during His three-and-a-half year ministry? Paul did not care about political correctness. He called out these deceivers for what they were in verses 13–15:

For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ. And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works (2 Corinthians 11:13–15).

No, these ministers did not look evil, but they appeared as ministers of righteousness. And do we think it is any different today? There are a lot of charismatic preachers in our world. Many are kind-hearted and do lots of wonderful works—feeding the poor, carrying on campaigns to “bring people to Christ,” but here is what Jesus said in Luke 6:46:

But why do you call Me “Lord, Lord,” and not do the things which I say? (Luke 6:46).

Notice He also said this in Matthew 7:22–23:

Many will say to Me in that day, “Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?” And then I will declare to them, “I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!” (Matthew 7:21–23).

Many people claim Jesus to be their Lord and Master. It’s easy to claim Him as Master, but not so easy to live as though He were your Master. The Apostle John dealt with the same issue of people professing to know Christ, but living their own way. Have you ever been asked, “Do you know the Lord?” How do you answer that question? Here is how John answers it in the second chapter of his first letter:

Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked (1 John 2:3–6).

Now circling back, what were the two commandments Jesus gave at the beginning of His ministry?

Repent, and believe in the gospel” (Mark 1:15).

But how can you believe in something you never heard?

Seek First the Kingdom of God…

I understand that it is shocking to hear that the true gospel of Christ is not taught in professing Christianity today. That is why I’m challenging you to prove it to yourself from the pages of the Bible. The Apostle Paul said that anyone preaching another gospel is under a curse. Therefore, it’s vital for you to know exactly what it was that Jesus and the first century apostles taught.

Now when it was day, He departed and went into a deserted place. And the crowd sought Him and came to Him, and tried to keep Him from leaving them; but He said to them, “I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent” (Luke 4:42–43).

Yes, for this purpose He was sent, and the message He was to proclaim was the Kingdom of God. So what IS the Kingdom of God? Do you know? Does it matter? Absolutely, according to the Apostle Paul! Here’s what He wrote to the people of Galatia, chapter 1, verse 6:

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed (Galatians 1:6–8).

So what was it that Paul taught? Was it the same gospel Jesus proclaimed, or was it a different message? At the very end of the book of Acts, where we find the Apostle in Roman custody, long after he brought the truth to the people of Galatia, here’s what we read in chapter 28 and verse 23:

So when they [that is, the Jews in Rome] had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening (Acts 28:23).

Notice that while he taught them about Jesus and how He was the fulfillment of many prophecies, his testimony involved the same message Jesus was sent to proclaim—the Kingdom of God. Now notice verses 30 and 31—the last two verses found in the book of Acts:

Then Paul dwelt two whole years in his own rented house, and received all who came to him, preaching the kingdom of God and teaching the things which concern the Lord Jesus Christ with all confidence, no one forbidding him (Acts 28:30–31).

So what exactly IS this Kingdom of God that Jesus and the early apostles taught? Some think of it as a nice sentiment—something set up in the hearts of men. Many think the church in today’s evil world is the Kingdom of God. Others think it is about going to heaven. And as outrageous as it may sound today, some people once thought the British Empire was the Kingdom of God. None of these are correct.

But the kingdom Jesus proclaimed was not a sentiment in one’s heart. It was not about going to heaven. It was not the church. And, it was not about Christianity taking over the world. It was a message about a very real kingdom set up on this earth, with a king, with territory, subjects, and laws.

A Real and Lasting Kingdom

So far, we’ve only looked at a few of the dozens of scriptures proving this point. We’ve seen that a substitute gospel was extant even in the early years of the Church, but the true gospel was, without a doubt, about the Kingdom of God. It’s time to see what exactly is the Kingdom of God.

It is self-evident that a kingdom is a government which must have four elements:

A King
Subjects
Territory
And Laws

Does the Bible tell us about such a kingdom? The answer is, yes, it does! Beginning in Daniel 2 where we read of an unusual dream given to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon. The prophet Daniel was given understanding and explained to the king that the giant image he saw in his dream represented four great empires that would arise in the area of the Middle East and the Mediterranean. The first was that of Nebuchadnezzar’s Chaldean empire. Then history shows it was followed by the Medo-Persian, the Greco-Macedonian, and the Roman empires. This last empire would continue in one revival after another until the end of the age when the God of heaven would set up a Kingdom. Let’s pick up the story in verse 44:

And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever (Daniel 2:44).

These same four kingdoms are described in Daniel 7, but instead of a giant image of a man, they are depicted in greater detail in the form of four wild beasts. And again, the last one continues down to the end of the age. Daniel 7:27:

Then the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdoms under the whole heaven, Shall be given to the people, the saints of the Most High. His kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, And all dominions shall serve and obey Him (Daniel 7:27).

Jesus elaborated on this kingdom in His parables. And as we have already seen earlier in this program, He said:

I must preach the kingdom of God to the other cities also, because for this purpose I have been sent (Luke 4:43).

Do you realize, my friends that Jesus gave us the answer to all four elements of this divine kingdom? He explained:

Who would be the king of the kingdom
Who the subjects of the kingdom would be
Where the kingdom would be located
[and] What would be the laws governing the kingdom

In the remainder of this program, let’s look at each one, beginning with Who would be the King of the Kingdom. The prophet Isaiah prophesied of Him in this famous passage found in chapter 9:6–7:

For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgment and justice from that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this (Isaiah 9:6–7).

This was a clear reference to the One who would come to set up a literal government on earth. Many passages point us to none other than Jesus Christ as that King, but let’s look at one of them. When Jesus appeared before Pilate, he asked Him a very direct question, and Jesus gave a very direct answer. John 18:37:

Pilate therefore said to Him, “Are You a king then?” [and] Jesus answered, “You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world…” (John 18:37).

Jesus Christ the King of Kings

One of Jesus’ most famous parables is found in Luke, the 19th chapter. He gave it in response to a misunderstanding. Let’s notice it, beginning in verse 11:

Now as they heard these things, He spoke another parable, because He was near Jerusalem and because they thought the kingdom of God would appear immediately (Luke 19:11).

There was no question that He spoke about the kingdom to be set up—it was only a matter of when. So in response to their lack of understanding, He begins by representing Himself as a nobleman on a mission:

Therefore He said: “A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return” (Luke 19:12).

Notice that He states here that He would receive a kingdom and return. We read of Him being crowned in a future coronation ceremony in Daniel 7:13–14:

I was watching in the night visions, and behold, One like the Son of Man, coming with the clouds of heaven! He came to the Ancient of Days, and they brought Him near before Him. Then to Him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve Him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and His kingdom the one which shall not be destroyed (Daniel 7:13–14).

Now back to the parable of the minas. What are His servants to do until He returns? Are they to live out their lives with nothing to do? Or are they (are we) expected to grow in grace and knowledge and to do His work? Let’s notice Luke 19 once again, beginning in verse 13:

So he called ten of his servants, delivered to them ten minas, and said to them, “Do business till I come….” And so it was that when he returned, having received the kingdom, he then commanded these servants, to whom he had given the money, to be called to him, that he might know how much every man had gained by trading. Then came the first, saying, “Master, your mina has earned ten minas.” And he said to him, “Well done, good servant; because you were faithful in a very little, have authority over ten cities” (Luke 19:13, 15–17).

Yes, Jesus was born to become a king. He came 2,000 years ago proclaiming the message about His coming Kingdom and to give His life a ransom for many. He gave parables showing that we can be born into that Kingdom by the resurrection from the dead and we can rule with Him. We must be changed from physical to spirit, as clearly stated in 1 Corinthians 15:50:

Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption…. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality (1 Corinthians 15:50, 53).

One must be born into the Kingdom of God, no longer flesh and blood. But then what? Where are those cities that God’s servants will rule over—the ones spoken of by Jesus in the parable of the minas? Are those cities in heaven? Not according to your Bible! Not according to Revelation 5:10:

And have made us kings and priests to our God; and we shall reign on the earth (Revelation 5:10).

Who will they rule over? Who are these subjects? Notice in Zechariah 14:

And it shall come to pass that everyone who is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Tabernacles (Zechariah 14:16).

Read all of Zechariah 14 and you will see that these subjects will be flesh and blood human beings who survive the great tribulation and the day of the LORD. These are not servants of God up in heaven, but carnally minded individuals who will learn God’s perfect way and also have a chance for salvation, just as we have. In summary:

The King of the kingdom will be Jesus Christ—Luke 19:12
The territory will be here on earth—Revelation 5:10
The subjects will be flesh and blood humans—Zechariah 14:16
And the laws of God will govern Christ’s Kingdom—Matthew 19:17

Evolution or Revelation?

Did you know Albert Einstein said natural law “reveals an intelligence of such superiority” it surpasses human understanding? Citing many experts and scriptures, Richard Ames asks seven questions evolution cannot answer.

[The text below represents an edited transcript of this Tomorrow’s World program.]

A Simple Choice… Or the Ultimate Question?

The Western world is becoming more anti-God and anti-Bible. The theory of Evolution pervades the universities and educational systems in many nations. How many believe in Evolution and how many believe in the God of Creation? Gallup Poll reported that “Forty percent of U.S. adults ascribe to a strictly creationist view of human origins, believing that God created them in their present form within roughly the past 10,000 years. However, more Americans continue to think that humans evolved over millions of years—either with God’s guidance (33%) or, increasingly, without God’s involvement at all (22%).”

Which is true? Evolution? Or the revelation in your Bible? Modern technology has discovered more intricate and complex elements of life, including DNA and RNA. These discoveries present challenges to evolutionary explanations that were based on more limited scientific knowledge of a century ago. Even some evolutionists have come to recognize that the complexity in the simplest of life forms cannot yet be explained by evolutionary theory.

Is there a God Creator who far exceeds the limited theory of evolution and who far exceeds the false concepts of traditional Christianity and other religions?

Some years ago, Tomorrow’s World presented a telecast titled “Questions Evolution Cannot Answer.” Those same questions can be answered by an ancient source proven to predict the future and reveal awesome spiritual truth, the Holy Bible. As we present seven questions evolution cannot answer, which will you believe: Evolution or Revelation?

Stay tuned!

Life and Law—Both Require a Creator and Lawgiver

Warm greetings to all our friends around the world. The human body is an incredibly intricate life form that scientists have found more complex and harmonious. The discovery of DNA and RNA reveals complexity and intelligence previously unknown. These scientific discoveries present challenges to the theory of evolution. Bill Bryson, an evolutionist, admits the impossibility of simultaneous development of interdependent processes. In his book A Short History of Nearly Everything, he writes, “Proteins can’t exist without DNA, and DNA has no purpose without proteins. Are we to assume then that they arose simultaneously with the purpose of supporting each other? If so: wow” (p. 289).

Bryson, and other evolutionists, apparently have a greater faith than mainstream religionists in believing the scientifically impossible. He further admits that impossibility: “For random events to produce even a single protein would seem a stunning improbability—like a whirlwind spinning through a junkyard and leaving behind a fully assembled jumbo jet, in the colorful simile of the astronomer Fred Hoyle” (ibid.).

It would also appear that some evolutionists do not believe in the laws of probability!

In our previous telecast, “Questions Evolution Cannot Answer,” we presented five questions that can be answered by the source of truth, the Holy Bible. On today’s program we’ll repeat a few of those questions and continue with a total of seven questions evolution cannot answer.

QUESTION #1 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: What is the source of natural law? Even the great physicist Albert Einstein recognized meaning in natural law. Einstein stated that the scientist’s “religious feeling takes the form of a rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection” (Einstein: A Centenary Volume, edited by A. P. French, Harvard University Press, 1979, p. 305).

Do great intellectuals disagree with the brilliant Einstein? Would they call him irrational for his observation? Let’s understand: those natural laws that amazed Einstein existed from the very beginning of creation! Scientists admit they had to be in effect. Theoretical physicists Stephen Hawking and Roger Penrose wrote, “The only way to have scientific theory is if the laws of physics hold everywhere, including at the beginning of the universe” (“Quantum Cosmology,” The Nature of Space and Time, p. 40).

The existence of natural law demands a lawgiver. If you have your Bible, turn to James 4:12. God reveals: “There is one Lawgiver, who is able to save and to destroy. Who are you to judge another?” What is the source of natural law? Atheists cannot answer the question, so they proclaim the question is meaningless! The Great Creator and Lawgiver established natural law at creation. That natural law guaranteed the universe that resulted. And there is additional proof! Not only is there natural law, but there is spiritual law that affects every human being. The Apostle Paul stated in Romans 7:12,14, “Therefore the law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good…. For we know that the law is spiritual, but I am carnal, sold under sin.”

The God of your Bible is the Creator of the Universe. And He is the Lawgiver of both natural law and spiritual law. QUESTION #1 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: What is the source of natural law?

QUESTION #2 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: What is the origin of life? Early scientists assumed that the living cell was very simple. However, scientists have now determined that even the “simple” cell is very complex. Cells contain thousands of proteins comprised of amino acids. Even common proteins may contain a string of 200 amino acids. As science writer Bill Bryson comments: “the odds against all two hundred coming up to a prescribed sequence are 1 in 10^260 (that is a 1 followed by 260 zeroes). That in itself is a larger number than all the atoms in the universe…. For random events to produce even a single protein would seem a stunning improbability—like a whirlwind spinning through a junkyard and leaving behind a fully assembled jumbo jet, in the colorful simile of the astronomer Fred Hoyle” (A Short History of Nearly Everything, pp. 288–289).

Is this the kind of “intellect” atheists embrace, religiously believing in the scientifically impossible? Thankfully, some honest scientists can admit their mistakes. Dean Kenyon, co-author of the 1969 chemistry textbook Biochemical Predestination, believed for years in purely chemical evolution. But later, when science revealed the intricate processes by which proteins are formed through DNA, Kenyon repudiated his evolutionary theory. Science determined that it takes DNA to organize the amino acids into proteins. Kenyon later said “We have not the slightest chance of a chemical evolutionary origin for even the simplest of cells.” As we quoted earlier, author Bill Bryson stated: “Proteins can’t exist without DNA, and DNA has no purpose without proteins. Are we to assume then that they arose simultaneously with the purpose of supporting each other? If so: wow” (ibid.).

My friends, one must have a blind faith to believe that all complex processes developed simultaneously and independently of each other in order to support each other. Evolution cannot explain that! Evolution has never proved that life came from non-life! God is the Lifegiver. He created the first humans as it states in Genesis 2:7 And, yes, there is life beyond death. The Messiah, Jesus Christ, stated in John 11:25, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” QUESTION #2 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER: What is the origin of life?

The Meaning for Life, and the Creative Power Behind It

QUESTION #3 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: What is the purpose and meaning of life? The ancient Greeks came up with a wide range of answers: The 4th century B.C. saw the rise of three principal schools of thought in Greece: Epicureanism, Stoicism, and Skepticism.

Paul then proclaimed to them the Creator God, who made the world and everything in it. And he made this fundamental, yet astounding observation in verse 28: “… for in Him we live and move and have our being, as also some of your own poets have said, ‘For we are also His offspring.’”

The Messiah, Jesus Christ, also affirmed this highest purpose in life. He was asked by a lawyer, “Which is the great commandment in the law?” Turn in your Bible to Matthew 22:37. Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matthew 22:37–40). Remember, Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” QUESTION #3 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: What is the meaning of life? QUESTION #4 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: Who has the greatest intelligence?

Even Albert Einstein acknowledged a source of intelligence far superior to human intelligence. He stated that the scientist’s “religious feeling takes the form of a rapturous amazement at the harmony of natural law, which reveals an intelligence of such superiority that, compared with it, all the systematic thinking and acting of human beings is an utterly insignificant reflection” (Einstein—A Centenary Volume, edited by A. P. French, Harvard University Press, 1979, p. 305).

The greatest Mind in the Universe also tells vain intellectuals: “Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this age, let him become a fool that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, ‘He catches the wise in their own craftiness’; and again, ‘The LORD knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are futile’” (1 Corinthians 3:18–20).

Let’s understand. Yes, some highly intelligent, rational human beings observe various religions and their paganism and superstition, and as a result they reject all religion, even the true religion of the Creator God. QUESTION #4 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: Who has the greatest intelligence?

The Universe and the Human Mind: Both Created for Glorious Purpose

Evolution cannot predict the future of the world, but Bible prophecy has proven time after time its accuracy in amazing detail. You can access our Tomorrow’s World telecast “Amazing Bible Prophecies Fulfilled.” On today’s program we’ve briefly discussed four questions evolution cannot answer.

QUESTION #5 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: What is the Origin of the Universe? Some scientists reject contradictory ideas of Creationism. Why? Because some Creationists say the earth is only 6,000 to 10,000 years old, obviously denying the facts of true science. The Bible and True Science are always in harmony. The Bible agrees with the fact of a universe billions of years old. Notice what it says in Genesis 1:2, “The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep.” The Hebrew words for “without form, and void” are “tohu and bohu” which can also mean “waste and empty, chaotic, in confusion, and in a state of decay.” Did God create this earth in a state of decay, without form and void? Notice that God says He did not! The earth became that way between its original creation and the time of Genesis 1:2. This is what God says in Isaiah 45:18: “For thus says the LORD, Who created the heavens, Who is God, Who formed the earth and made it, Who has established it, Who did not create it in vain [tohu], Who formed it to be inhabited: ‘I am the LORD, and there is no other.’”

God did not create it in tohu or “in vain,” but it “became” that way as verse two should be translated. Genesis 19:26 is another example of the word “was” translated as “became.” What happened in the following verses is described in Psalm 104:30, “You send forth Your Spirit, they are created; and You renew the face of the earth.” God renewed the face of the earth and established a re-creation some 6,000 years ago. But the original creation of the universe and the earth was billions of years ago.

Yes, God created the universe, and He created time for human beings. Genesis 1:14, “Then God said, ‘Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs and seasons, and for days and years.’” The weekly Sabbath is a memorial of that creation. And the weekly Sabbath has been in effect ever since as we read in Genesis 2:1–3 and in the fourth commandment stated in Exodus 20:11.

QUESTION #5 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: What is the Origin of the Universe? QUESTION #6: What is the human mind? The materialist insists that the human mind and will are the function of chemical and electrical processes. How does the human mind function? Dr. Robert L. Kuhn has written extensively on the human brain and mind. Just what is the mind? Evolutionists cannot accurately answer that question. Dr. Kuhn describes the limitations of materialism. Can everything that exists be explained simply by chemicals and molecules? “‘The brain is a computer,’ cries the materialist, pointing out parallel; concepts in cybernetics and neurophysiology…. “BUT IS HUMAN MIND ENTIRELY THE SAME AS ANIMAL BRAIN? THAT’S THE CRUCIAL QUESTION. And to find the answer, we submit this fundamental issue to the unbiased arbitration of brain research. Representative mammalian brains can be weighed and, in descending order, they are: Whale, elephant, dolphin, man, gorilla, chimpanzee, and rat. Comparative anatomical studies reveal a uniformity of distinct brain structures: Each structure is present in EVERY brain, though their relative sizes vary. There is NO qualitative difference among ALL the mammalian brains. MENTALLY, of course, man is unquestionably supreme. That’s obvious. But he DOESN’T have the largest brain! And that’s surprising” (The Plain Truth, January 1970, p. 44).

The incredible output of the human mind, including time-binding, creative imagination, art, music, literature, and speech, far surpass[es] the greatest output of animals with similar sized brains. Dr. Kuhn and other brain researchers have concluded that there must be a “non-physical” component to the human mind. Again, the Scriptures reveal the awesome truth about the human mind.

If you have your Bible, turn to 1 Corinthians 2:11. The Apostle Paul writes: “For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him? Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.”

Here we find that humans can understand “the things of man” by the spirit of man. Animals cannot understand the things of man—they do not have the human spirit. Humans have a spiritual component. This is not an immortal soul. Here God reveals truth that very few scientists understand. Listen: the human spirit combined with the human brain produces human mind power. Yes, humans have a spiritual element. Since atheists deny the role of spirit in the universe and in human life, they cannot answer the question “What is the Human Mind?” But notice that even deeper understanding is required. As we just read in 1 Corinthians 2:11, “Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.”

And that gives us the gift of a “sound mind,” as it tells in 2 Timothy 1:7. My friends, God has revealed the answers to the most fundamental questions of life, destiny, and existence. Which will you choose? Evolution? Or Revelation? QUESTION #6 EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER: What is the Human mind?

The Ultimate Reality, and God’s Ultimate Love

My friends, isn’t it time to examine the proven revelation from your Bible? Let’s briefly discuss one more question evolution cannot answer; QUESTION #7: What is the greatest reality?

We witness the reality of physics and mathematics in our technologically advanced age: in instant communication around the world, in transportation, in space travel. The calculations, planning, and designs are based on predictable laws of cause and effect. That’s why twelve men were able to walk on the moon, and space vehicles have landed on Mars for exploration.

The prophet Isaiah reveals God’s sovereignty when he declares: “Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket…All nations before Him are as nothing, and they are counted by Him less than nothing and worthless” (Isaiah 40:15, 17). Yes, God is “Omnipotent,” all powerful (Revelation 19:6), and “God rules supreme!” We can also state that the greatest reality is “God is Love” 1 John 4:8, 16). QUESTION #7: EVOLUTION CANNOT ANSWER IS: What is the greatest reality?

My friends, the God of love and His Son, Jesus Christ have revealed the spiritual dimension and the greatest reality of all. The great intellectuals of the world have not come to that understanding. As Jesus stated in His prayer, “I thank You, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the wise and prudent and have revealed them to babes” (Matthew 11:25).

The God of creation has an awesome purpose for all humanity and for you and your family. You need to study into it for yourself.
